Grants & Scholarships

Update: May 2022  

We would like to thank all the groups that submitted applications.  After careful review Camp Destiny After School Enrichment Program, Youth Excitement Team and the Meridian Freedom Project were chosen to receive these grants.  We were pleased to award the full amount to each of these groups.

Scholarships
Scholarship recipients are chosen by the institutions to which scholarship amounts

are awarded. Potential candidates should contact the institutions directly for an

application and guidelines.

 

The Charles L. Young, Sr. Scholarship - $2,000

2 awards annually in April

Two awards annually, one in the Fall and the other in the Spring

3 Awards annually during Martin Luther King, Jr. Program

Grants

In an effort to continue with our founder’s philanthropic mind set, the trustees of the Charles L. Young, Sr. Foundation are pleased to announce 2 new grants.  These grants will be awarded in 2019, 2020 and 2021.  Each grant recipient(s) will be announced and notified between May 1st and May 15th each year.  Applications are excepted all year, but to be considered for current year, application must be received in P.O. Box 2897, Meridian, MS 39302 no later than April 15th of that year.  The grants along with their guidelines are listed below.

Summer Reading Program

1)    Grant if awarded to existing program, grant should not exceed 30% of project (or organizational) budget. 

2)    Total amount awarded by the Charles L. Young, Sr. Foundation is $8,000 over 2 years.

3)    Grant if awarded to fund a new or existing project/program, dollar for dollar matching funds are required. 

4)    Labor such as volunteer tutors may be used in place of matching funds.  If labor is used a 2 for 1 is required. 

5)    1- and 2-year projects are eligible. 

6)    Befits and services must be provided in Lauderdale County.

7)    Befits and services must be awarded to Lauderdale County residents.
